The Clay County Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking 65-64 overtime loss to the Pickett County Bobcats in the Region 4A Championship game on Monday.
The game was a back-and-forth affair throughout, with both teams trading leads and momentum swings. Clay County held a slim 39-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Pickett County rallied to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Bobcats managed to hold on for the victory despite a late surge by the Bulldogs. Pickett County was led by Jacob Amonett with 15 points and 8 rebounds, and Nathaniel Cobb added 17 points. Nate Adams had a strong performance for Clay County, scoring 22 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, while Lance Burchett chipped in 17 points.
The Clay County Bulldogs will face the Chattanooga Prep Sentinels on Monday, March 10th, at 7 p.m. in the sectional round of the TSSAA Class A State Tournament.
