Celina City Council Convened For Key Decisions

Posted

The Celina City Council convened for its regular scheduled meeting today, Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. at 330 Dow Ave. The agenda, released by Mayor Luke Collins' office, outlined several significant items impacting the community.

The meeting commenced with the customary call to order, prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Following this, the council proceeded to approve the minutes from their April 8th, 2025 meeting. A public comment period was held, allowing residents to address the council on various local matters.

A major decision on the agenda involved a vote on a resolution to authorize an initial resolution and a bond resolution, paving the way for the issuance of a $2,000,000 General Obligation Bond for Street Paving. This move aimed to fund crucial improvements to the city's infrastructure.

Other key votes included the approval of a Beer License Permit for the Save A Lot store. The council also voted to approve bidding on three essential utility projects: the TDEC Sewer Plant project, the Cedar Hill project, and the Free Hills Pump Station project.

The First Reading of the 2025-2026 General & Water Works Budget also took place, providing the initial look at the city's financial plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

Finally, a notable item that was addressed was a vote on whether to place "liquor by the drink" on the ballot for the August 2026 election. This decision will allow residents to vote directly on the matter in the future.

The meeting concluded after "Other discussion" and official adjournment.
