Community Supports East 52 Fire Dept. At Catfish Tournament Fundraiser

Posted

Despite challenging weather conditions, the spirit of community shone at the recent catfish tournament fundraiser organized by the East 52 Volunteer Fire Department. Held at Horse Creek Marina on Friday, May 2, the event drew danglers and supporters who braved the elements to contribute to their local heroes.

The East 52 Volunteer Fire Department, serving Clay County and often extending their invaluable services beyond county and state lines, operates entirely on limited funding and the dedication of its volunteers. This annual fundraiser enables them to continue providing fire and rescue services to the community.

The catfish tournament saw numerous participants vying for top honors in adult and children's categories, with prizes awarded for the heaviest catches. Demonstrating the strong community bond, all fish caught, regardless of size, were donated for the fish fry held the following day.

Saturday's fish fry, despite a scheduling adjustment due to persistent rain, proved to be a success. Hosted once again at Horse Creek Marina, the event brought together community members for a meal and fellowship. Attendees contributed donations to the fire department and many brought along side dishes, further highlighting the collaborative spirit of the day.

The East 52 VFD expressed gratitude to everyone who played a part in the fundraiser's success. Their thanks extended to Horse Creek Marina for their continued support and hospitality, the numerous individuals and businesses who donated, the anglers who participated in the tournament, the volunteers who filleted the fish, and those who stepped up to assist with setting up tents and tables amidst the rain.

"We have a wonderful community!" exclaimed a representative of the East 52 VFD. "The support we receive makes all the difference in our ability to serve."

The success of this year's catfish tournament and fish fry underscores the deep appreciation within Clay County for the vital services provided by the East 52 VFD. The event serves as a powerful reminder of how a community can come together to support those who dedicate themselves to protecting and serving others.
