Holiday Traditions: A Sugar Cookie Leaf Wreath

Posted

For Halloween we brought you Local Lore, so to continue the holiday theme for the month of November we will share ideas for you and yours to try this holiday season.

When thinking of Autumn, it is impossible not to think of the trees changing to the warm hues then shedding their leaves before going dormant in the Winter months. The coziness of the season beckons the baking of cookies and sipping on cider or hot chocolate.

All that to set the scene of the first of the new traditions, a sugar cookie wreath. The first step would be creating a wreath form from a sturdy piece of cardboard.

Next grab your favorite sugar cookie recipe and a leaf cookie cutter. To decorate the leaves, one could put dyes in the dough before rolling out and cutting or paint the cookies once they are baked. Whichever way you choose the leaves will look amazing.

The final step would be gluing the leaves to the wreath form, but step away from the glue gun and drop the Elmer’s, for this project the glue used royal icing. Carefully arrange the leaves around the wreath form to complete the wreath.

Now you have a beautiful and edible holiday centerpiece.
